D.O.S.M.N. Reminder!!!

(is it just me or is excessive use of acronyms a truly Canadian thing?)

Hi All!

I hope the Xmas Bunny was good to everyone. Just
wanted to remind you that the last Tuesday Night Movie
Night of 2003 is happening this Tuesday, Dec 30.
Start time is 7pm, as usual. Pop fund will be in
effect and RSVP upon usual penalties.

The program: Verhoeven Madness!

From the man who brought us "Robocop", "Starship
Troopers" & "Showgirls" (not to mention "Basic
Instinct" & "Total Recall") we decided to explore two
of his earlier Dutch works.

7pm: The Fourth Man [1983]: Overtly symbolic in-joke
on the critics who dismissed Spetters as "exploitive".
Basically a noir-ish murder mystery with all of the
usual trappings: a beautiful "femme fatale", hard
boiled dialog..., but with the usual Verhoeven
embellishments: castration, full-frontal nudity (male
& female), stabbings... all played for laughs!

9pm: Spetters [1980]: Kind of like "Saturday Night
Fever" where you replace the disco dancing with dirt
bike racing. Meant to be a gritty slice of life, but
so over the top in typical Verhoeven fashion that
you're not sure whether to laugh or sit in stunned
silence.

Let me know if you can make it and call if you need
directions etc.
