New fun!

Yesterday I went dragon boating with my work. It was as much fun as I expected (I really do enjoy being on the water) and it looks like my company is putting together a corporate team for the Alcan Dragon Boat Festival. I asked to join, let's see if they let me.

You kids know me, I am a wimp and a half! But my team came in second and for first timers, our team was at the upper novice, lower recreational team times. It was wicked awesome totally cool fun.

And now, to the point: Dragon Zone, for the month of May, on Sundays has $2 lessons at 2pm (all equipment included!). I'm going to leave Chinee foo at 1pm on the dot to make sure I can get into this. I'm going to try to make it out every weekend (it's a great deal compared to the season rates they charge), and if there is enough interest from Clubhousers, we might be able to even get a recreational team going. How awesome* would that be!?

So, I'm getting to Chinee Foo at 11:45am and ordering the tofu, the green onion cakes, & mushroom fried rice. Anyone interested in dragon boating on Sunday with me is more than welcome to come. If you can't make it this weekend, and you're interested in going later this month, give me a holla'! I'm also going to set up a Clubhouse series of events on facebook.

*unrealistic.

Fine. I'll Cross-Post.

Hey, unhip kids, want to see a movie? Sure you do. Do you want to see Coupland's script on film? Sure you do.

Everything's Going Green
2:30pm Matinee, Sunday. Tinseltown. Be early. Buy tickets. Watch movie. Don't bring anything electronic because the fuzz think you, the paying movie attendee, is the reason that the movie industry is making tens of billions, as opposed to hundreds of billions, of dollars. Which is their prime concern, you know? I am bitter. But I'll get over it. By going to a movie.

And being treated like a criminal.

If you want more info, join facebook like the rest of civilization.

Pre-corpse, post-Wii Dinner

Saturday night, 8:30-8:45pm start at Nirvana on Main near Broadway.

Nerd Party!

It looks as though I am getting my two extra wiimotes today or tomorrow! I would've liked to have had 4 remotes, but Wii Play comes out next month and it comes with an extra wiimote.

I'd like to schedule a Wii Party for Saturday late afternoon prior to going to Body Worlds (that forces us to leave around 8:30 to get dinner and to Science World in a timely fashion).

I'm thinking of being ready for gaming around 3:30-4pm. Earlier birds will get guaranteed play time on the game(s) of their choice. Multiplayer games (number of people able to play at one time) as as follows:

Need for Speed Carbon (2)
Elebits (3 - limited to number of wiimotes)
Rayman Raving Rabbids (3 - limited to number of wiimotes)
Wii Sports (2, 3, or 4 - one wiimote is shared for bowling, boxing is 2-player only)

I do not have Zelda: Twilight Princess at this time as I have leant it out in exchange for Need for Speed.

House rules are as follows:

1. The wrist strap stays on all the time.
2. Mach 10 speeds are not required for the system to recognize your movements.
3. Share. I may have troubles adhering to this one, but I'll try.
4. The wrist strap stays on all the time.

Anyway, let me know if you're interested, feel free to bring snacks or drinks as dinner will be late.

Body Worlds

I am going to order tickets tomorrow for Body World 3 at Science World for Saturday,

If you are interested, Be prepared to attend at 4am on the morning of Saturday, but I'll aim for an evening spot. There are only 125 spots available for each time slot, so I am looking for solid responses by tomorrow 9am to ensure a respectable hour. If you are interested in going during any hour on the Saturday, post in the comments.

Rates are $20 for adults, $17 for students, with a $2/ticket surcharge for "convenience".

I'll post the time on here as soon as the tickets are ordered, for people who are waffling and would rather buy tickets on their own.

Rime

7pm Saturday for dinner. Let me know asap if you're planning on coming so I can make reservations (assuming I still can.)

Blogger Switch - A message for authors

Scott illuminated the fact that the Clubhouse has a scant 6 authors now because I switched over to the new Blogger (because it's more awesome and blog authors who are logged on don't have to type in the stupid key pass phrase to post comments).

To remedy this problem, follow my simple steps (no guarantee that it will work, as I have never HAD to do this, as I was the catalyst, not actually the flock):

Log into Old Blogger (you get the choice of Old or New now). If you're already logged on, log out and log back into Old Blogger. Click the SWITCH NOW button that features somewhere prominent on the front page. Sign in with a google account or a gmail account. You are now allowed to use New Blogger. But, wait! Make sure you log out of all Google products and Blogger before attempting to post again.

This, pressumably, will get you up and posting again. If not, be patient. Somehow that worked for another author of the blog and he ended up with two accounts to write for the Clubhouse (so I deleted one, if it was the wrong one, I am sorry).

If anyone else has sage advice to give to the old bloggees, post it in the dear old comments.

Ain't No Party Like a Clubhouse Party

2006 kinda sucked. Drink it away and start 2007 with a hangover!

The clubhouse's first official party in over a year.

New Years Eve, BYOB, Friends and Such.

Start around 8-9. Bring Food please. In Return I will try my hardest to tidy up the damn place. Oh when will I find the time.

Mike if you are interested in kjing, let me know what you need and I will try to accomodate. Not much space for it, but what the heck.

it's like an xmas party, only easier...

aka, CHINEEFOO X-MAS EDITION

paul mentioned getting together for the foo while he's in town. I'm proposing meeting up at noon sunday (the 24th). I have confirmed they are open. we can meet up and watch paul finish TWO big bowls of congee all by himself this time!

we'll be there at noon, at the big table in the back...

Christmas Party

Hey, I have been meaning to do a lot more than I have. The following is a list of things meant to be done this year but have miserably failed:

1. Christmas cards. A shout out to those who actually got their shit in gear and got the cards out. Props go far to Mariko for sending hers the earliest. It also helps that I only raked in a scant 6 or so addresses, and was going to scout out theother dozen or so friend cards and another dozen or so family cards. So... I have your cards, they're just at my place.

2. Along with said cards were going to be Christmas party invitations. Really cool ones with instructions and possibly pirate themed. As you can see that I got left at the design phase. I can poop out a mailout in about 4 hours, but here, we are, more than 4 hours later, and no invitations.

3. Plan a hand-made gift exchange. I suppose there is still time to do that, but I'm thinking the gifts might be a little on the scrimpy side with such short notice.

4. Bake cookies! Again, while there might be time, there are other pending issues needing to be done (like actually acquiring Christmas gifts and wrapping them in time). Maybe I'll make New Year's cookies.

Instead, I beat Zelda: Twilight Princess and set up my tree. I made handmade ornaments for it to make sure it wasn't sparsely decorated (even after making a bunch of ornaments, it was still naked, so I bought some extras).

BUT NOW! I am ready and prepared to announce a Christmas party that has yet to be officially announced. A few weeks back I sent out a "it's coming this night" email to a bunch of you, and to wait for further instructions (Which were going to be in the mail, but... number one thing of things I didn't do). But I still love you all, even if I've been socially hibernating (sometimes unintentionally).

In conclusion: Come to my party on Saturday. Bring your egg nogs, your rum, your hot toddies, your friends, your plus-ones, your parents (if they've got nothing better to do), something to drink, a snack to share if you can (veggies, dips, chips, crackers & cheese, etc.), and last but not least: yourselves. Also: gift wrapped empty boxes so my tree looks way less humiliating are being accepted. I also have no problem with people exchanging gifts among each other and if there is enough of a interest, I can set aside a time when that will happen.

Core group, I ask that you give me a solid RSVPASAP as it'll give me a mini-gift head count.

NaNoWriMo

http://www.nanowrimo.org

UPDATE: Exerpts are available to read!

National Novel Writng Month starts in less than two weeks and some of us (a few in the writing group) are taking up the challenge of writing 50,000 words in one month. Mind you, they may not be 50,000 good words, or even 50,000 coherent words. It's like a Page-A-Day calendar, except instead of being a little square with kittens or Bushisms, it's an 8.5" x 11" douple spaced typed page a day and you have to make it! Doesn't that sound like fun (or torture, but fun?). To win NaNoWriMo, you just have to finish 50,000 words in 30 days.

The above website has registration and if you need a laptop to write on AlphaSmart has provided the organization with 25 mini-notebook computers that run on 2 AA batteries for 700+ hours (so you knw they're going to be bare bones word processors). I just think that fact is so cool. Also, it is filled with hints, encouragements and tips for all writing, not just time-pressured novelists.

If you register with the website, you can buddy with "corinnebean" and others from The Clubhouse (who can opt to share their nicknames) to monitor and mentor each other. Oh, and I'm pretty sure you can opt to share your writing or opt out of it. Considering that whatever you write is copywritten, I imagine the sharability is controlled.

Discouraging stat: this post comes under 250 words.

P.S. http://www.scriptfrenzy.org/ is coming June 2007 for you, Beej!

KARAOKE PARTY THIS FRIDAY!

I've been asked to KJ a birthday party at a shared house on the corner of 12th and Ontario. Some of you may have met the hosts at the Vet's club recently, Casey and Stuart are two of the roommates. Anyhow, they've been gracious enough to open the venue to friends through the ANAF #298 or the Clubhouse blog. Karaoke should be starting around 8:30-9:00pm and will go into the wee hours of the morning. Feel free to bring alcohol and come meet some new people. I encourage you to drop by and if timing is critical, I'll let you call in requests. I should have an assistant to help with rotation scheduling (I'm looking at you, Brendan).

Now the best part, I've recently moved to an external HD system with a song selection that might actually impress even Ron. Unfortunately, the list is too big to post to the web. So go to www.kjpro.com or www.dbkaraoke.com and "browse" or search by artist/song title and give me the code (I should be able to search by artist or song, but just in case). There will be 6 books also. Expect complete song selections from all major artists and ALL the recent top 40.

I'll post the address and my cell no in the forum tomorrow.

Events to note

1. AbsoluteSpa day on August 20th. I'm going to book some stuff there that day, for me, but if anyone wants to join they also have a men's menu. This'll be pricey, so keep that in mind. Depending on who's in, there may be other things to follow.

2. Sports Day. Of note: that link takes you to last year and a spectacular photograph of Duke. This year it takes place Saturday September 16 from 11am to 4pm in Coquitlam somewhere (I can look it up; it's a different location than last year I think). It's $15/person and a team of 4 is $60 (what a bargain!). You get a swank (not really) t-shirt and a chance to win some dapper prizes. The year I participated, I won a Roots watch. Not only can you win by participating, but you can put more money in to win raffle prizes (I hate the word "raffle"). I can list you all the prizes, but there is a ton of neat stuff and some crap (like TV Week subscriptions). Anyway, it'd be cool if we had a showing of Clubhousers. My work may have a team or two and I'm already signed up with my family, but this event is way less torturous with cool people around. If you think your workplace or social collective would like to start a team I can send out a registration form.

3. Other activities that I'd like to happen in the next month: I'd like to make it out to the Night Market, go out dancing, plan/attend a party where karaoke is not the central focus, summer picnic at a park (potluck style), possible PNE/Playland day if there is any interest.

I know this is a lot to digest, but I'm going to start planning a lot of these on the Google Calendar and I might try to add the Calendar to the blog to make it more accessible. I'd appreciate some input from any of you as to what you'd like to attend, what you would not attend if your life depended on it, and other events you would like to see happen in the Clubhouse.

Also, I am looking for contest ideas because we're coming up on having enough credits to get a t-shirt from Threadless. If there are no contest ideas,I'm just going to get the shirt for myself! ;)

More to come...

The photos begin to trickle onto my flickr site...

For example:

Monkey photo everyone is on about.

Editor: Sorry, Paul, this was really messing with the formatting of The Clubhouse, so it's down to link format. In the future, try using Blogger's photo adding function and choose size small.

Holy Monochrome!

The Clubhouse gets a long overdue facelift. At first, I thought that it just needed a new logo (which it most certainly did), but since only one person took the bait, the competition idea was killed (many thanks to the super awesome entrant!).

Onto dreary!

$10 tees again

Threadless has reprinted a TON of shirts and printed up a new batch of "type" shirts. Not only have they done that, they've introduced a kids line (so the smaller ladies who don't want to frou frou colours can opt for a youth large/x-large).

Oh, and they're $10 until Wednesday. Coupon code WYWS saves you $5 on orders over $50, SUPER TEES saves you $3 on any order. Please use the link to the left. Contests will be running this summer (including a new "Best of" Clubhouse posts) and a threadless tee would make a great prize.

If you haven't check the calendar lately...

The Clubhouse Purchasing Power Department is looking to feature summer cheese movies.

First up is Too Fast Too Furious: Tokyo Drift. For those who have not snickered, laughed, or giggled at the first two, this might just be the one to have you in stiches. Opening night is Kevin's adios-muchachos party, so it's going to have to be a Saturday night. This may be a double feature night finishing with Nacho Libre (reason for order of movies is that kids are going to be drawn to Nacho Libre and are less likely to be at the late show; crazy car fanatics are night owls and will likely want to go to the later screening of 2F2F3).

The second scheduled (but there will be more screenings before this one) will be Snakes on a Plane on August 18th. This is a pre-order event and you know it. The calendar comment section will be the place to reserve tickets. This movie will fall nothing short of terrible. WOO HOO!

Other Brainless Blockbuster suggestions can go here or at the calendar. And remember, if you don't have an account to access it, let me know ASAP. This is the premier location for Clubhouse events and activities and you should be posting events there as well as here.

Dialogue of Cities

JP and I are going to a series of evening lectures June 1-3rd on the Museum in the city and the city as museum. I know Brendan would be interested but maybe the rest of you have some urban geek inside you wanting to come out.

Details in the Clubhouse Calendar

You can buy tickets individually ~$15 each or a three ticket pack for ~$30.

www.festivalboxoffice.com

Website Blurb:

There are two key questions we are asking our global experts to consider as they discuss their own home cities: ?What is Vancouver?s place in the world of cities, and how can we learn from the successes and failures of other metropolises?? and ?If the city is itself a kind of museum of the peoples and ideas that shaped it, what is the role of new and expanded museums in the contemporary metropolis??

FORMAT and SCOPE: The event consists of a concentrated three-day public program just prior to the main WUF event. June 1 and 2 will feature illustrated slide lectures at two venues downtown (SFU and Robson Square) by seven of the world?s leading architects and critics, focusing on current urban issues and museum-building in some of the world?s most interesting cities. The event will conclude with a June 3 session at Arthur Erickson?s Museum of Anthropology at UBC, where our guest commentators will offer their opinions and suggestions for Vancouver, and then open up a dialogue with the community. All invited guests are design writers and urbanists from all continents, public intellectuals whose writings have been published in many of the world?s leading newspapers, magazines, and design journals.
