Birthday palns!

so to celebrate my birthday we are having an "Excuse to wear that outfit" karaoke party on saturday at my place. Address should be in the forum. come wearing something that's been sitting in your closet dying to see the light of day again.

also this week i will be at karaoke as per usual and on my actual birthday i will be going to the five alarm funk show at the buffalo club. so if you can't come on saturday maybe i'll see you tonight or tomorow

I'll bring the Karaoke setup and some dessert. I'll be updating the song selection this weekend and printing addendums next week.

I'll try to organize a couple of smaller events at my place this month, perhaps a screening of "city of lost children" and a trial run of the first "cooking group" (TBA, think writing group but with utencils instead of pen and paper...err...laptop...equally educational though).

KARAOKE PARTY THIS FRIDAY!

I've been asked to KJ a birthday party at a shared house on the corner of 12th and Ontario. Some of you may have met the hosts at the Vet's club recently, Casey and Stuart are two of the roommates. Anyhow, they've been gracious enough to open the venue to friends through the ANAF #298 or the Clubhouse blog. Karaoke should be starting around 8:30-9:00pm and will go into the wee hours of the morning. Feel free to bring alcohol and come meet some new people. I encourage you to drop by and if timing is critical, I'll let you call in requests. I should have an assistant to help with rotation scheduling (I'm looking at you, Brendan).

Now the best part, I've recently moved to an external HD system with a song selection that might actually impress even Ron. Unfortunately, the list is too big to post to the web. So go to www.kjpro.com or www.dbkaraoke.com and "browse" or search by artist/song title and give me the code (I should be able to search by artist or song, but just in case). There will be 6 books also. Expect complete song selections from all major artists and ALL the recent top 40.

I'll post the address and my cell no in the forum tomorrow.

As Paul has informed me of his plans for Friday the 18th (my b-day), I will be having my party time on Saturday the 19th. Wink is hosting a night of various humour based performers and you can buy tickets for this night there. They cost $8. I know I keep saying this but it really may be your last chance to see my beautious visage before the east claims me for their own. As of today my flight is on the 21st.

Brendan's B-day BBQ

Eventhough today (Bastille Day) is my birthday, I would like to see you guys out at Kits beach on Saturday for a beach BARBEQUE.
When: Saturday July 15th 3:00 pm most cookin' and eatin' as of 5:00 pm
Where: the Kits Beach picnic area (North of the Wartermark consession area and adjascent to the volleyball nets)
What: BBQ (some Burgers and libations provided, but bring food if you can) If you don't know what to bring, call me. GAMES (Volley, Frisbee, Pirate driftwood fort play). SUN (Weather permitting, otherwise we will change venues to a houseparty in east van).

This Week In History @ The Pic

Aidan asked me to help out on the promotions for an upcoming gig for his band, This Week In History. You might remember them from such gigs as "The Buffalo Club" (DVD available) and 8 Seconds (opening for Darkest o/t hillside thickets, Hanson bros). Anyhow, they have another gig that almost coincides with Aidan's quarter century birthday blowout:

This Saturday the 27th

I'm not going to the Gorge to have the Flaming Lips sing "Happy Birthday" to me like they did in 2003, but honestly, karaokeing with friends just might be a little better.

First stop, the recently expanded Foundation restaurant for dinner, 2301 Main St @ 7th Ave, 5:15 til just before 7:30. Yes, that's really early, but they open at 5:00 and I hope we can be out of there in time for the main attraction. They don't accept reservations and sometimes the food can take a while, even if you're not in a party of what could be 20 or so. But the food will be worth it. I'm not a vegetarian and neither are most of the friends I've been here with, but there's something for everyone.

Then the Vets Club of course, Main @ 23rd, from 7:30 til 11:30. Best to get there as early as possible and sign up immediately for one or two songs, if you're a singer. I'm really excited for some dareoke! I already warned the request-taking lady that there might be a whole lot of singers who wouldn't normally be there on a Saturday, and she thinks it'll be fine.

And barhopping afterwards if I haven't been liquored up enough.

Birthday plans

I'm going to a Midsummer Night's Dream at Bard on the Beach. Festival seating, so buy tickets, and we'll see each other there.

It's a Wednesday, so most of you will be going to karaoke, but for those who want an alternative, feel free to join me.

Anyhow, here's the scoop on the Richmond Nightmarket (off Vulcan Way and River Road in Richmond, 2.5 blocks north of Ikea).

Date: May 19 to Oct 01 2006
(Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Long weekends)

Opening hours:
7:00 p.m. to mid-night (Friday and Saturday)
7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. (Sunday and Long weekend)

I'm considering a trip on opening weekend once the date is set for a certain birthday. Great place to get games, movies, computer/cell accessories, books, kitchenware, RonCo knockoffs, cheap food...it's the closest thing Vancouver can offer to uwi...uwa...uwe...Aunt Jemima! (Damn you, Christian!)

TBA - Cascade Falls trip...tentative date July 23rd, but possibly a June date as well if it's hot enough. Hike riverbeds, swim in pools from glacier runoff, slide down naturally formed waterslides. Just east of Mission.

TBAA - Golden Ears is a close second...north beach, lower falls...shelter at peak to camp overnight...just north of Maple Ridge.

Third Decade Down

Just wanted to put the word out: keep Saturday the 25th evening open. I'm thinking we need to organize a transit crawl to approximately 30 different locations TBA...some may be licensed...hopefully most will be.

Oh yeah, it's 2 days before my birthday.
