Sign my cast?

This will perhaps be my last non-morphine induced transmission for the next few days. I broke my ankle on Burnaby Mountain sunday...not doing anything stupid or dangerous...just taking a corner along the base on the shoulder and having the front tire wash out while the rear knocked me to the ground. Unfortunately, my left foot got pinned...aside from the burn of a ligament tear, it didn't seem broken...but the fibula shifted and I have to get a plate put on tomorrow. Then I'll probably be confined to the coquitlam center area for about 10 days...

So yeah, I'm off to the Royal Columbian hospital for the day tomorrow.

Just remember: mountain bikes don't kill people...random forces of nature and laws of physics do.

p.s. On the flip side, Gareth did AWESOME and rode an XC that I'd spent a week working on until the gears and brakes were better than new.

Cause i'm a toys 'r us kid

I've decided that just because i've graduated it doesn't mean i have to grow up right away. So in celebration of this i'm having a kids party at Trevors on Oct. 8 anytime after 7pm. Finger food, crafts, colouring sheets(possibly a colouring contest) and loot bags (only if you rsvp because i don't have enough money to buy stuff for people i don''t know are coming) are some of the things to look forward to.

As this party is a tribute to our childhood feel free to bring any games or movies or food that symbolizes good times from when you were a child. It has been suggested to me that everyone should bring a box of their favorite sugary cereal they weren't allowed when they were younger which sounds great to me (golden grahams are my favorite).

Directions to Trevor's are in the forum but i'll update it cause right now they're kinda vague.

Frilly dresses and bunny pyjamas are perfectly acceptable attire.

On Friday after work I plan to go to Zulu to buy tickets for at least Duke and myself. I can think of a few people here who like this band, so does anyone want in? You can buy them at ticketmaster.ca already for $30 + $8 or so in service charges, but it might be significantly cheaper at Zulu.

Also I have two spare tickets for Franz Ferdinand, Row 13 at the Orpheum, Tuesday October 4th.

Temporary repatriation

I'm in Vancouver as of tomorrow for about a week. I anticipate jet lag and a substantial amount of reverse culture shock.

One thing I'm going to have to do is eat at a lot of restaurants.

Is the Mekong on Commercial still up and running? That place was rad. Some Chinese food at a decently clean Chinese restaurant might be nice (in contrast to the Chinese restaurants in China). And I need a lunch at Thai Away Home. And some Turk's coffee. Pho at midnight. Vancouver salmon sashimi. Bubble tea! (Not too popular in Japan, too dangerous in China) Etc. Anybody hungry?

It was observed that I haven't really posted about it...

I promise if I have another personal post I'll ressurect my personal blog. For now, you get to read about my life. Or skip it.

I started work yesterday. I have my own office. It's about the size of my last boss's office. The main difference is that I'm now on the 9th floor, I have minions and a view of the ocean, mountains and downtown. A serious view. I can see both Burrard and Granville Street bridges. I have a plaque next to my door that is silver with my name in Times New Roman font. It's classy. Seeing as how I work for a firm that builds houses, the interiour of this place puts the marble and hardwood of my last job's decor to shame. I have a ginormous solid wood door on my office. My desk is huge. It's V-shaped. I have two phone numbers (one a direct line to my office, another is a direct line to my voicemail). They're pretty picky about making long distant calls, but I can certainly accept them if you want to call my at my office. I have one of those key cards that you wave like magic and you get into locked doors. It's sweet. I also have an executive chair with more gadgets than even I've managed to figure out. I can get pretty much anything I request right now. I think I want a personal desk printer. They're cheap. I wanted a better chair than the one I ended up with (or at least my desk chair, I have two other chairs meant for guests). The first chair I got slowly creapt downwards all day long until I was seated cross-legged on the floor. So today, I asked Benita (Office Manager) for a new chair. She offered me the super exec one I have now. I sat in it, said it was fine. She then said she had another chair to try out if I didn't like that one. And if I didn't like either of them, she'd order me a brand new one. (!!!) I took door number one without looking at the other options. I was featured on their intranet site. It pops up every time anyonr in the office boots up their computer. It was a "Let's all welcome the new person! Here's her brief biography!" I didn't give them a bio, and yet they had one.

Immediate perks (outside of the cushy setting) are as follows:

1. Free fluid. Not just water and coffee and tea, but there is a wide array of fruit juices that are quite delicious. I trust the bottled juices more than the coffee. Everyone there is frighteningly friendly and perky. I suspect it is a facade or something in the coffee.

2. Free food. Not only was I taken out to lunch by my supervisor (who thanks me profusely whenever I take up or complete a task)\r\nyesterday to the Cactus Club, tomorrow they are having a "New Employee Orientation Lunch" which involves me, the new employee. So they're having a lunch for me.

3. Discounts galore! 50% off bus passes. A gym for $60 a year. Some other stuff that I can't think of.

4.And I'm a hop, skip and a jump away from Granville Island. I went to the deli for lunch today.

Speaking of appearances: I've also had to nerdify myself as I got pink eye and it won't go away. I got myself some cheap new glasses, and I have no contact lenses for a while. I think I look hot, all things considered.

Uh, pictures to follow on my flickr. Such as the view and maybe some nerdy picks (when the pink eye goes away).

Booze

So out of sheer boredom I've started a batch of hobo jug wine. In 10 to 14 days, people can feel free to get righteously sick with me on whatever sewage is left in the undustrial medical soap bottle that I am brewing in. Pictures to follow.

Once finished, we will push our bum carts down to the trainyard and drink the foul brew in front of an oil-can fire, reminiscing about the good times and vomiting into our tattered coats.

R.I.P. Glen Callendar.

Karaoke Update

Tentatively, how does Saturday, the 24th of September sound for a karaoke party? Depending on the response, I might put out a request for another venue (my place could be cramped). The Slack Shack was well received last time and none of the locals were too traumatized by "Liar"...so this is good.

Updated songlist is available here.

Song count is approximately 1540 at this time. Most requests are now there.

PARTY!

Slack Shack's Big Back to School You House Party

FEMA

I'm not sure how much of this you can trust (if any) but I went to find conspiracy shit on FEMA after hearing lovely stories of repeated fuck-ups in New Orleans. 5th one down on a Google search. The link is something written up in 1995 (maybe, it says it is).

FEMA hates black people.

Sadly they don't list sources, so...

Anybody Going Down South This Weekend?

I have two tickets to Bumbershoot (this weekend) I'm trying to get rid of. Lots of good bands, art, movies & stuff.
The tickets are for one day admission (good any day) and I'm selling them at the advanced ticket price (what I paid) of $18US or $22CDN.
If you bought them there they'd be $28US ($33CDN).

We were planning on seeing DEVO, but they canceled the day after we bought the tickets. There's still lots going on, but since we couldn't really afford the trip in the first place and were only shelling out for DEVO, we'd like to sell them if we can.

Let me know.
