SINCE YOU PUSSIES HAVEN'T PLANNED ANYTHING FOR BJ ALONE GETTING HITCHED (FOR AT LEAST A FEW YEARS) - HOW MANY OF YOU WILL BE DOWN WITH MEMPHIS BLUES AND THEN SAM'S APARTMENT ON THURSDAY NIGHT? THIS WILL BE A "SAM" NIGHT THOUGH... NO DRESS UP FOR BJ, NO POT, NO LOUDNESS... JUST THE HEATHEN HAMMER... AFTER WE GOURGE AT BLUES, WE PROCEED TO THE APARTMENT AND WATCH AVON (70s ROUGHIE PORN), DRINK BEERS (I DON'T DRINK BUT BYOB), AND TALK ABOUT HOW LAME EVERYONE IS EVER!! SAM IS FUCKING VIOLENT, SO NO OUT OF HAND SHIT, PLUS... IF DANIELLE SHOWS UP LATER, WE CAN SNEAK HER DRINKS AND SHE MIGHT DO SOMETHING FUCKING CRAZY! THE BEST THING IS THAT AFTER WATCHING THE PORN COLLECTION-- WE MIGHT GO HOME MORE BUMMED THAN STOKED! YES!!! SAM MIGHT EVEN BRING HIS OWN FRIENDS.. FUCKING CRAZY!
SO-- DURING BRA AND PANTY TICKLE FIGHT AT KAT'S PLACE, WE ENTER THE DARKNESS OF SHIT. MCKINLAYSAM[AT]HOTMAIL[DOT]COM

Party at Bob's
Hello Everyone,
Bob and I are hosting a party next weekend on Saturday, April 23rd at 7pm. Bob has gained my permission to have a social event at our house with much personal sacrifice (which I will leave to your imagination). This party is being held partly because we haven't had one in a very long time and mainly to welcome Paul back as he was so *luckily* not eaten by wild animals nor executed by our hitman (sigh, that's $10 wasted). Paul must show up and ceremoniously recieve back one token item from his possessions or he will forfeit the lot to us. (Though even if he shows up he is still going to have a heck of a time seperating Bob from the rice cooker.)
Party Clauses:
Anyone caught annoying a rabbit better be swift on their feet and have their passport handy. They also better have found a very secure hide out by the time my passport is renewed next month.
Don't let the cat out. It is too stupid to last long in the wilds of our back yard. He keeps trying to make friends with the raccoons that live there.
Teasing Bob is also strictly regulated. The only ones that can do it (without me suffering as well)are pretty girls. (That does not include you Paul)
You may also meet some "dialoguers" please read the informative website and don't ask them what they have been doing for the last three month as they don't know either.
Not admiring the beauty, intelligence and general wonderfulness of your hostess will be punished with dark looks and a lingering resentment. I will also do my best to start some malicious gossip about you. (Malicious gossip is also available as a reward for those so inclined. Price list available upon request)
If you are going to bring guests that either Bob or I do not know personally please let us know in advance.
lots of love,
R

BJ & Mariko's Seven Deadly Sins Stag(etta!)
As requested by the wedded to be, I will be organizing and hosting the celebrations. The following is the schedule, and due to financial restrictions of some of us, if you are unable to afford a portion of the night, you are free to join up at a later time or depart early, RSVPs will be needed for each portion of the night. The invite is open provided that the attendants are counted for in advance (ideally before the 12th).
Saturday April 16
Part I
3pm - 6pm: Casino or Horse Races. TBA (infinite or little cost)
Part II
7pm-9pm Dinner. If it's over 20 (which is possible), we won't be able to attend Memphis Blues, but will probably just hit up All-You-Can-Eat sushi in Burnaby. It costs about the same as splitting the right number of Elvis platters. If we do the sushi thing, I'd like to get a party room. I was thinking Taisho, maybe some Karaoke in a private party room. It costs hourly to do so, so it would add to the bill. ($20-40 depending on Karaoke, drinks, etc.)
Part III
10-11pm The night. Sneak in some boobies downtown. Two pieces minimum of ID. Anyone without the ID will be subject to being left outside until we move on to drinking. The Cecil is requested, the Cecil it is. $5 cover?
Part IV
11:30-2am Celebrities. I figure a balance of boobies to cocks is a good idea. $10 cover?
April 17
Part V
2:30-10am Clubhouse slumber party. Movies, popcorn, post-party drinks, vomit buckets for those in need. ($0)
Part VI
12noon: Chinee Foo. About $7 a person is a safe number. Bring $10 just in case.
Please, please, please: I will *need* RSVPs for the following sections: II, III, IV, V and VI. If you plan to attend the whole time, just say "all". If you'll be around only after dinner, state III, IV, V and VI. Simple?

R.I.P. BASS WOLF 3/30/05
"Narnack Records has reported in with this sad news:
It's with deep and saddest regret to announce this latest Guitar Wolf news. Last night (3/30) Billy, aka Bass Wolf, passed away of natural causes. He was 38.
The band had just returned from their month-long US tour, and fortunately Billy did get to spend time with his wife and children before checking into the hospital. He died in his sleep sometime during the night.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and Guitar Wolf members Seiji and Toru.
The Japanese three piece, which formed in 1987, most recently released Loverock in 2004. Our deepest condolences go out to Billy's friends and family."

Calling All Suckers
Looking for some unfortunate soul to accompany me to see A Lot Like Love in Richmond tonight. My plan is to leave right from work and hang out at Aberdeen Mall for a bit before the movie. I will be departing from Granville & Broadway by 3:30pm, so we can meet up at Chapters if you are fool enough to join me. Please reply to this post, first come, first serve.

Pranky Pranking Pranksters
Prangstgrup. The Lecture Musical is high-larious. They're all pretty damn funny, actually.
In other news, I'm going to see Sin City at the Van East tonight, because it's cheap Tuesday and I'm, well, cheap. I know everybody's already seen it, but anybody want to see it AGAIN?

spidey speculation
thomas haden church, fresh of his oscar nomination for sideways, has been tapped for the next spider-man movie, playing an as yet unidentified villian.
I figure we're a geekly crowd, so we should get some speculation going.
my first thought was sandman, but that didn't seem like a very exciting villian. considered mysterio as well. realistically, I have to go with scorpion.
but fuck it, I'm gonna stick with sandman. I'm curious to see what effects raimi would use to pull it off...

Last Minute D.o.S. Reminder
Hey Kids,
Again, apologies for the lateness, but those who care already know that today is the pre-BJ's B-day Purple Rain/Cool As Ice second chance.
So here's how it breaks down:
7pm: Cool As Ice [1991] -- Vanilla Ice's film debut. Bring booze (lots of it).
9pm: Purple Rain [1984] -- Easily Prince's best movie. Yes, that is saying something. Bring more booze.
RSVP if you can. Forget the pop fund and just bring booze.
~meeko
p.s. This is the last D.o.S. night until May because Meeko is running short on brain cells as it is.

Fuck I don't know when! And Den Of Sin fun!
So due to my being sick, another KEY person being sick, depression, distraction etc. the shoot is pushed back yet again. Now I'm shooting for FRIDAY MARCH 11th. I'll post again to confirm sorry to have been a flake about this whole thing. I'm still trying to find a scapegoat in this whole thing.
Onto DEN OF SIN goodness
MAR. 7th: 80s ACTION SUPERSTAR (supertards) DOUBLE BILL
So the Americans are now living in a new Conservative era, however movies have not gotten as ridiculous as Hollywood did in the 80s under Reagan. The era of Schwarzenegger and Stallone. And these movies have dated, hard. Consider this a sociological study and BYOB cause you'll need it.
7PM: COBRA [1986] - UM Stallone. He wears sunglasses, has an laser-mount submachine gun, pearl-handles Colt .45 and uses a matchstick for a toothpick. Oh oh "CRIME IS A DISEASE. MEET THE CURE." is the tagline. So I'm not going to bother looking this up on IMDB I'm pretty sure this is going to be pretty darn ridiculous.
9PM: COMMANDO [1985] - Yeah Schwarzenegger. Uber one liners. Brutal body count. Written by the same guy who wrote the acclaimed "BATMAN: THE LONG HALLOWEEN". Ahh there'll be action.
P.S. Owen your belated birthday present (it is goodness) is here so you should come.
MAR. 14th: POP STARS ON MOTORCYCLES ENCORE (and it's my birthday [on the 16th])
7PM: COOL AS ICE [1991] - This time for sure. We just don't put Damon in charge of getting it. Oh the movie. It's Vanilla Ice's big screen debut. What more you want? Quality? Screw you.
9PM: PURPLE RAIN [1984] - Seriously this movie is one of the few sincerely primal films I've ever seen. I can't say more except you have to see. I want a big turnout for Purple Rain.
So yeah. that's it for now.

SEATTLE TRIP!
Well, first there's the quintessential visit to Jack in the box, with the traditional breakfast consisting of bacon and egg on some form of bread, a fried potato patty and deep fried tacos. Leaves you praying for death for the next few hours.
The early afternoon was anchored around the Westlake shopping center from which each member of our intrepid band (and various permutations of said band) had access by foot or monorail to hot topic, suncoast video, electronics boutique, the largest (and scariest) cosmetics store in the western world (mary kay?), zanadu comics and the fish market (more than just fish, but that's all you can really smell). I'm still in amazement over the selection at Easy Street Music as well, take Zulu and triple it.
Later that afternoon, we decided to check out Xian's old/possibly next neighborhood, Ballard. So was it everything Almost Live built it up to be? Crazy retired Norwegians driving down the center of the road, wipers on, seatbelt dangling out from underneath the door? Actually, it was pretty quiet.
We made it out to Scarecrow video (Of which I must open a franchise in Coquitlam, if only as a service to all of mankind), half price books and a closed cinema books (where I really, really wanted to interrogate the shopkeeper on her method of organization, that I might apply it to my own household). Oh yeah, I found Kikaida, Mariko. Three weeks later.
Dinner consisted of some of the best pizza we'd had in a while at a tiny deserted bar off the main drag. As skeptical as I was while being IDed by an elderly woman who could barely read my passport, they knew EXACTLY how much bread and cheese should go into each pizza. The Irrational and Bean departed to hear the ramblings of one wise sage.
The Old Pequliar was our next destination for beer and pool, where Xian demonstrated some of the finest trick shots I'd ever seen. Hell, I can't even launch a cue ball across the room. The familiar sound of 'Be Aggressive' by Faith No More drew me into the kitchen where I spoke with Dave the cook for a while about Mr. Patton and his recent exploits.
The Animation Show (vol. 2) was our entertainment for the evening, a film festival started by Mike Judge and Don Hertzfeldt, to prove that animators could organize and facilitate such events on their own (yeah, smells like Spike and Mike retribution). I think we all managed to intermittently nap, so between the five of us (Xian, Miyuki, Mariko, Jen and myself) we DID see the whole thing. Here's what I remember:

GUARD DOG
Bill Plympton's latest short about a paranoid dog who perceived every living creature in the park to be a threat to his owner. Many laughs were had, it was reminiscent of the first five minutes of Gozu (Yakuza Attack Dog!).

HELLO
An Aussie short by Jonathan Nix. I thought it was really cute. The story of an analog ghetto box, unable to splice together a message quickly enough to attract the attention of a digital neighbor whom he's falling for. In the end, the gramophone (grandpa) prevails with an old school message of love.

THE MEANING OF LIFE
Don Hertzfeldt's latest short that explores the evolution of mankind, through various stages of hideous mutation. During the modern day segment, we get a hilarious glimpse at social interactions of characters who repeat the same out-of-context phrases over and over.

WARD 13
Another Aussie short by Peter Cornwell, who took years to produce this stop-motion masterpiece. After a car accident leaves a man bandaged from head-to-toe in a hospital ward, he soon realizes that the patients there are undergoing hideous experiments and seeks to escape an inevitable fate. I loved the wheelchair chase scene reminiscent of the last five minutes of 'the wrong trousers'. I'm just such a fanatic when it comes to old school stop motion animation.
Special mention should go to 'Pan with us' by Dave Russo, a live action stop-motion short that traces Pan's spirit (an eagle) through familiar urban scenery that must have taken months to collect. Narrated with the Robert Frost poem.
Wanna see the gargoyle?

So Xian took us under the Aurora Street Bridge to see the Fremont Troll, a piece constructed by four artists in 1990, sporting a hubcap for his left eye and a crushed Volkswagen in his left hand. This is the traditional starting point for Halloween (Trolloween) pub crawls.
Kudos to Xian for playing tour guide and putting up with our 'are we there yet?' moments, of which there were many; however, tongue planted firmly in cheek. Yep, Seattle ranks right up there with Adelaide, Cologne and Malibu for places that just felt like home.

House Party at Karen's
ok.
Fate is a strange thing.

Fate is a strange thing.
I've just been told we are having our House Warming Party for "The Slack Shack" this Friday the 11th of Feb.
As many of you know, (all of you?) I recently caused some well meant but drunkenly reasoned havoc at a Clubhouse shin dig. So, without further ado, here's a chance to come rip it up at my place. Ah how quickly the tables turn. lol
hope to see you all.. big hugs

St. Patrick's Day
Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaby boy.
So, since Saturday was a hit, the Clubhouse has assigned itself another party for March19 18, 2005 at around 8pm.
Feel free to bring your friends, and leave those you don't know where you found them (it makes for a much more relaxed gathering).

Last Minute Reminder & The Rest of February
Hey Kids,
Just wanted to remind y'all that the D.o.S. is back tonight, starting at 7pm. Please R.S.V.P. if you can make it and bring your pennies for the pop fund.
The itinerary:
7pm: Business is Business [1971] -- Paul Verhoeven's take on the red light district in Amsterdam in the '60's. 'Nough said.
9pm: Turkish Delight [1973] -- Hot Rutger Hauer butt shots!! Rutger Hauer's butt!!! Mmmm, Rutger Hauer...
Also, while we're at it here's the schedule for the next Movie Night:
Monday February 22 (the day before my birthday, hint, hint)
Fantasia Favourites (As in the Film Festival in Montreal)
7pm: 9 Souls [2003] -- I understand this is the early show, but everyone must try to make it for this movie. Easily my favorite movie I saw last year. You can read my gushing review on Film Threat if you want to know what it's about, but trust me, this is a great, great film.
9pm: Ping Pong [2002] -- Incorrectly marketed in the West as the Japanese cousin of "Shaolin Soccer", I'd say this movie is more like a wackier sports themed take on "School of Rock". Funny, exciting and extremely inspirational this is a fabulous film for all ages and even had the jaded Montreal crowd cheering along with the film. Don't miss out on one of the best sports films ever. No really.
That is all. Hope to see you there.

Just out of curiosity:
How many people are signed up for this thing? I just realised I no longer had any idea who everyone on here is or how many there were.
How about a "getting to know you" comment on the topic of...errr...let's pick an easy one.
How did you meet The Bean?
I'll get it rolling. I met her through my ex, who was friends with her and Mister Eff.

Checked out the first few episodes of Wonderfalls which comes out on DVD today. They were....wait for it...wonderful. To those who impulse buy their DVDs I suggest picking this one up.

Xtra Special D.o.S. Screening This Wednesday
Hey folks,
Sorry for the late notice, but I just found out about this myself. This Wednesday (Feb 2/05) at 7:30pm there will be a very special screening at the Den of Sin of "Om Gottes Willen", Nina Hagen's documentary about her spiritual travels through India. There will likely be chanting before or after the screening as well and a special surprise guest (but if you ask really nice I might tell you). Please RSVP so that I know someone is coming. If you can make it I highly recommend it. This will be a night to remember.

The Triumphant Return of the D.o.S.
Okay kiddies, we're finally back. With a new day and everything. So, next Monday prepare to get your rocks off yet again:
Monday February 7/05
Verhoeven Night Part 2
7pm: Business is Business [1971] -- Verhoeven's first film to receive distribution in the US this is slice 'o life kind of picture, kind of comedic, kind of dramatic... set in Holland's famous red light district. AKA Diary of a Hooker, AKA Any Special Way. A must see for fans of Verhoeven's early work.
9pm: Turkish Delight [1973] -- An extra yummy Rutger Hauer stars a Dutch sculpter who has a stormy affair with a young girl. Told in flash back it's kinda like a Dutch (read: sexier, less sappy) take on "Love Story".
Next D.o.S. night will be Monday February 21/05. Schedule to follow. Plus, a special weekend edition of the D.o.S. with mystery guest. Maybe. Details to follow.

if the red cross can find paul's hand...
I know there has been talk of a road trip to seattle to witness none other than yours truly getting his ass kicked by a cartoonist half his size for copyright infringements involving a tattoo, but there is another trip worth mentioning...
the following weekend (valentine's weekend, no less), cinerama has a lord of the rings marathon for $35.
for those of you who haven't been to the cinerama, it is the COOLEST movie theatre on the planet. paul allen dropped a buttload of money into renovating it. it's even got stars on the ceiling!
anyway, you guys can discuss... comic con on the 5th, or lotr marathon on the 12th.
if paul's remains are recovered in time, perhaps even his hand could be present for corinne to hold the entire time...

Shame on Burton, Shaun on Romero!
'First there was George Romero's classic 1978 zombie movie Dawn of the Dead. Then, last year, came the spoof of the movie, Shaun of the Dead. Now, Romero has a new film in the works, Land of the Dead, in which members of the cast of last year's spoof will be featured, one of the stars of the new movies has disclosed. John Leguizamo, who says he plays "a zombie killer" in the new movie, told the website ComingSoon.net, "I've got my own hypothesis too about [why Romero included the Shaun cast]. ... The beauty about Romero is that there's always been a sense of humor about things. I mean, there's always a little bit of a wink to it."' (imdb 1/18/05)

why, lard, why?
I'll admit, I was hopeful when I saw johnny depp was pegged as willy wonka. still didn't understand why they'd bother remaking the movie (yes, money, fuck you), but I figured if anyone could pull it off, he could.
then I saw this.
there is no god. or worse yet, this is proof there is, and all those fuckers who like dubya are right...

weekend fun.
so, aside from the clubhouse party friday night and eating my favouritist chineefoo ever (no paul, not hon's) with miyuki, my weekend slate is clear.
I'm thinking an encore presentation of life aquatic would be good, since miyuki slept through it the first time. I'd also like to see house of flying daggers. and possibly closer.
I have $80 to last me 48 hours. this should accomodate at LEAST two movies plus drinks plus chineefoo.
so, who is up for what, and when?
I'm thinking a saturday back to back would be sweet. 2pm life aquatic, followed by a 4:35pm flying daggers, with bubbletea inbetwixt, at tinseltown? there's an earlier option of noon and 2:30, but who wants to think about that? you can still taste the toothpaste...
'sides, I'm hoping for chineefoo saturday for lunch...

K so here's the plan....
It's me birthday on Jan. 5, this is Nicholas by the way, and I am intending to go out for laser tag or some other similar event and then to the Lotus for dancing to a ton of dj's who mess with all tunes modern and retro in weird and fun ways. This is a Wednesday night, cover is $4 , coat check $2 and drinks are $3.50. I don't know how much laser tag is, friends are looking into it for me, but I am looking for something fun for a night, then dancing. There are usually between 4 and 12 dj's there taking turns spinning for the night so there should be something for anyone.
I am also trying to put together a more relaxed and talkatively social event for the weekend, either Friday or Saturday, but I have not found a venue yet. Rachael and Bob suggested the crepe place on Granville St near the capitol 6, but I have been told the drinks are not the cheapest. I will be looking into getting reduced rates and such but I am not sure yet. If anyone has suggestion for either night or both let me know. I really want to go dancing on my birthday and still have the chance to drink and socialize with my friends. I like the weekend because most people can make it, anyone who knows me is invited and I will stress that I really do not want anything from anyone in the way of gifts. I say this because I have had people not show up because they could not get me something, which is total bunk as I really only want to see people that I care about.
Post and let me know what you think.

moral imperative
the life aquatic with steve zissou allegedly opens on xmas.
I MUST see this movie. the day it is released. preferably the first showing.
one problem, I can't find where (or if) it is showing in vancouver. something about canadian movie listings sucking so much ass when it comes to predicting showtimes for the following week (you guys all know canada has weaknesses, this is its biggest).
can someone please confirm for me where and when I can be viewing this finest of films? and perhaps accompany the li'l woman and I for a group outing? and early afternoon showing on the 25th would be swell.
and no, it isn't weird to go to the movies on dec 25. I do it every year. I can only handle so much family time, and movie theatres are always open.

Cem has brought legends such as John Zorn, Dave Douglas and Junk Genius to Vancouver and has done so much for the scene that would otherwise only exist during the du maurier jazz fest.

Hey Everybody: Get Excited!
Hey Kids,
I know you've already marked your calendars in red, but just in case you haven't I'm issuing a big fat reminder that the second annual D.o.S. Xmas Massacre happens this Saturday (Dec 18). We'll be staring around 7pm, but if you can't make it 'till later don't worry just get here when you can 'cause we want a BIG turnout this year. As usal there will be games, movies, surprises and food (!) Also as usual it's B.Y.O.B. and you'll probably want to because I finally got ahold of what was supposed to be last year's surprise (props to Alex for helping us out). I offer a taste for those not convinced of their obligation to attend.
Also remember to bring a small (no more than $5), wrapped gift for the Greedy Santa Gift Exchange. Make something, re-gift, bring something you found on the way, just make sure it's wrapped so no one knows what it is. Points are awarded for humour value (we may even institue a special prize for whoever brings the best present). Last year's "high"lights include a can holder shapped like a curvy woman in daisy-dukes, an issue of Heavy Metal from 1981 and several pieces of junk culled from BJ's desk in the office. Don't miss out.
Kindly RSVP with whether you'll be attending or not (friends are more than welcome, just make sure they have a gift) so I know how much food to make.

Damned Africa...
Okay, so life is pretty good here, but someone convinced every net provider in the country that a web address can't have an underscore in it, so they don't even attempt to access it any more (it worked in the first few weeks). So I can't actually see the Last Time or the comments therein, but I can read the posts from Blogger's Dashboard.
So I have been keeping up, even with Graeme's elephant porn (sick fuck), but I don't get to see comments... damn...
Not entirely sure why that seemed important enough to post about, but it's too much work to delete now.

Birthday/Chirstmas party
As it is now officially my birthday and I just finished my last assignment and can actually think about these things, I thought I'd get off my ass and organize some way to celebrate. I was thinking about hosting a gingerbread house making night at my place. I'll provide snacks and apple cider and gingerbread if everyone that comes could bring some sort of candy to decorate with that way we have a variety. It will be next tuesday the 21st sometime in the evening. RSVP
I'll email those whose email adresses i have with details like my address when i figure everything out.

So Quiet it's Non-Existant
FUCK YOU ALL.
Especially the bastards and bitches that asked for a December party. Fuck all you stupid asses and their stupid fucking ass demands!
Anywho, I'll take up the New Year's and turn it into the Decemberween/New Year's thingy. Provided Christian promises no nudity. Seriously dude, we actually lose headcount when you do that.
And while I may sound like I'm blaming all, it's actually a good thing. I am so far from being in the mood to party, and Grae's got plans for that night he'd like to get up to. It all works out in the end.

5...4...3...2...1...
So, what are all of y'alls New Year's plans?
Every year this is the most party-challenged day. If you have a party you're going to or planning to host one yourself, let's hear it.
Yes... I'm just looking for invites. :(

RETURN OF THE KING: EXTENDED EDITION THIS SUNDAY!
Hey all
One of the advantages of working at a video store is getting my dvds a few days before the rest of you suckers can get your hands on them. Oh those five days between thursday, when the shipment arrives, and tuesday, when they're released on the shelf, are pretty damn sweet. It makes me feel like a God. Well this weekend we get our copies of Return of the King: EE and dammit I'm watching it this Sunday and all those who want to see it please come.
We'll be starting at SIX FIFTEEN pm sharp (or when Owen shows up because he's awesome and you're not). Come any later, we will not open the door. This is a one time thing with the snobbery but I don't want to keep stopping and starting the movie all night.
So yeah come on down. The mouth of Sauron awaits

Quiet Decemberween
It's a busy time, but we promised everyone a Decemberween. All night are pretty much taken before Christmas except for December 17. I know there "might" be another event the next night, so if you've got plans already for the 18th and aren't down for two nights of partying, do go to the one the next night.
Decemberween is kind of being thrown together and in a quiet, no-pressure sort of gathering. If it's super quiet, board & video games will get pulled out. Otherwise, normal drinking and socializing which you should all know the drill by now.

Sorry for the late notice
Here it is, your December D.o.S. schedule:
Wednesday December 1 -- The News is F**ked
7pm: How's Your News [1999] -- Documentary which chronicles the cross country journey of a unique group of journalists, all with disabilities ranging from spastic Cerebral Palsy to Downs syndrome; as they perform "man on the street" interviews with a test pool of Americans.
9pm: Network [1976] -- Although made in the late '70's, this Oscar winning film is eerily relevant today. Also, Faye Dunaway is mega hot in it.
Saturday December 18 -- 2nd Annual D.o.S. Xmas Massacre
7pm: Whole lot of surprises and treats, just like last year. Remember to bring a small, wrapped mystery gift for the Greedy Secret Santa ($5 & under... make something, recycle something you got last year that you hate... whatever). Refreshments and knoshables to be provided, additional donations of all of the above greatly appreciated.
As usual please RSVP (especially for the Xmas Party) and we will be getting a hold of you soon regarding the first D.o.S. movie, Undead, shooting later this month.

Check This Out
Holy Crap guys, I'm an answer on a quiz (sort of).
See, I used to live in this house near UBC that we called "The Fletcher House" and we all had a Fletcher name and identity. We even recorded a single (covering The Velvet Underground's "Femme Fatale").
Please take this quiz and let me know which Fletcher you are most like and see if you can guess which Fletcher I am.

More Movies, More Changes
Hey All,
Here's the new schedule for this week.
Wednesday November 24, 2004
7pm: Beautiful Girl Hunter [1979] -- Based on a comic by Masaaki Sato, this is one of the better art-shock films out of Japan.
9pm: Convent of the Sacred Beast [1974] -- Described by Sinister Sam as "Female Convict Scorpion with Nuns", this is a classic of nun-sploitation.
Oddly enough, both films were directed by Norifumi Suzuki who was also responsible for the Sonny Chiba classic "Shogun's Ninja".
Let me know if you can make it or not (pleeeease). Pop fund is in effect and we'd like to start closer to on time this week, so the closer to 7pm you can get here the better.

Crazy-Ass Video Store
Anyone heard of this place, it seems pretty awesome. Some really messed up videos. Ideal torture-garden stuff (and in fact has the L'Histoire of Melody Nelson which those in the know saw at the last torture garden.) Awesome stuff.
EDIT: HAHA I'm an idiot. Thanks meeko.

"Results may be more vibrant on lighter hair"
More vibrant? This isn't more vibrant so much as it is a result that bears no resemblance to the color it was supposed to be at all!
But it's neat. Looks more pink and less orange in person.
I wonder what my boss'll think? She ok'd purple...

Moving Day, Part 2
Hey Everybody,
Just thought I'd update y'all with the scoop on my whereabouts for this month and also mention the "real" moving day. I stayed at my friend Chris' place in surrey for the first week of November, Gareth & Sophie's last week and am currently rooming at my co-worker's farm in aldergrove (well, technically abbotsford, though being on zero ave I seem to be on T-mobile, so I may not answer my cell some evenings...)
In between classes last night, I made a quick call and was informed that the developers working on my new apartment building weren't allowing any furniture into the suites until the occupancy inspection was completed on November 25th. This puts me at the 27th for a move-in day and I'll have a 2-3 hour time slot for access to the elevator (others will be moving in that weekend too).
So once again, anyone who might be available that day to help move furniture from the accountant's boardroom, down 2 floors on the elevator, across the indoor bridge, up 3 floors in another elevator and directly into the suite opposite, please let me know. The timeframe will likely fall somewhere in the 10:00am to 6:00pm range. I'm thinking a donair run, some snacks and maybe a pre-housewarming might be in order...that will likely be the first night I can actually crash there.
Grae and Cor can provide my email or cell number...which, incidently, is corinne's old phone number before it became grae's and was temporarily Clem's.
Duke
p.s. There'll be underwater photos here eventually, as I plan to start documenting the forthcoming journey into the depths of Indian Arm!

About Africa...
Madness reigned in my final days in Canada. The chaos of the trip was compounded by my attempts to finish grad school applications at the same time. Fear not, I've been blogging, but I haven't had reliable Web access here. Now I'm slogging through the morass of Botswanan dial-up to build a new spot for my ramblings, the joyously-named and Kim-inspired Eaten by Elephants. The format is VERY basic, a symptom of atrociously limited bandwidth... nothing to be done about that until I can find broadband, which just doesn't really exist here. Which is strange, because some of Botswana's far poorer neighbours have far better ISPs. In any event, comments are EXPECTED! This will be one of my key lifelines to my own world. I'm gonig to be VERY out of the loop on politics, movies, and pretty damn much everything, so I'm counting on y'all to at least chat with me about animals with large teeth.
One minor caveat... my grandparents and other sweet'n'innocent folks will be reading the new blog, so let's keep the assrape references to a bare minimum. You know who I'm talking to.

Hey all,
Hope you've all recovered from Halloween etc...
Now, here's your official reminder about the next movie night, Wednesday Nov 10 and some changes
Wednesday Nov 10: SEX!!
7pm: The Lickerish Quartet [1970] -- I've been waiting a long time to program something by Radley Metzger and this seemed like as good a time as any. Boobies and a mind-fuck all swirled together in one mod-Eurotrash package. A real treat for all who attend.
9pm: Valerie [1969] -- The film that invented "Maple Syrup Porno". A Catholic girl in Quebec embarks on a journey of self discovery. Also of note for it's swinging Franco-pop soundtrack.
**Changes** Wednesday Nov 17: Animals Attack
Because apparently people were looking forward to Orca, I decided to make an extra screening just to get it in.
7pm: Orca: The Killer Whale [1977] -- Produced quick on the heels of "Jaws", this features whale on whale love and sopping wet Charlottle Rampling & Bo Derek.
9pm: Grizzly [1976] -- Imagine if "Jaws" had been made with a giant bear instead of a giant shark. Now add Christopher George and Andrew Prine
Wednesday November 24: MORE SEX!!!!
7pm: Ecstasy of the Angels [1972] -- From IMDB: "Imagine seeing a hysterical comedy about idealistic terrorists betrayed by their leaders as written by Jean-Luc Godard, produced by David Lynch and directed by Gregg Araki: that gets you somewhere in the neighbourhood of what this picture is like." Also, there are naked Japanese girls.
9pm: Beautiful Girl Hunter [1979] -- This one is courtesy of Sinister Sam so you know it's gonna be good. Another one not for the faint of heart it mixes, sex, sadism and philosophy in the way that only the Japanese can.
Now mark your calendars and I'll see you on Wednesday.

I was robbed...
Well, for those that could not make it out to the Sonar on Hallowe'en, I did not win. I didn't even get top three. Another Edward Scissorhands won first place. A skinnier, lamer version. Sure, I may not have the body type to begin with, but his looked like it was thrown together in a day. His hands were electrical taped for god's sake! At any rate, I'll post pics when possible. For confirmation, ask Kestrel whose costume was better.
All tomorrow's parties...
Woot! The big day is almost upon us, and the Pic Pub seems to be the place to congregate and witness either the disintegration of American democracy, or its wheezing, half-assed clinging to life.
If I may make a proclamation beyond any power I actually hold, NO ONE is permitted to stay home, or even at work, and fail to give the incoming results their full and undivided attention. Everyone is expected to be at the Pic slavishly following the returns from Ohio and Florida, and hopefully Jon Stewart will oblige us with much ongoing commentary, not just the one puny hour I've heard of so far.
For my part, I've managed to weasel my way into the US Consul-General's election night shindiggy at the Westin Bayshore, and I sure hope he's a Kerry supporter, 'cuz it'll be hard to feign disappointment when Kerry takes Ohio. That whole thing will wrap up by 9, or I may leave earlier if I can't get Comedy Central, so I'll head over to the Pic asap following my free dinner. Let's see a record turnout, people. Anytime after 6 PM or so is probably a good time to show up.

Bruised, Blistered and Bleeding...
Well, it was a hurrendous move...mainly due to the fact that only one person showed up to help me move the entire contents of an 850sf apartment. I called my boss who was pretty much my personal saviour this weekend, between the assistance on saturday and temporary storage on sunday. Strangely enough, the 3/4T cargo van was double booked and we somehow managed to get a 1T cube. Anything less would have contributed further to the disaster with a 2am completion time (which would have been impossible as the new manager HAD to be there for the security and elevators). Sunday involved solely my own efforts of piling up drawer/closet contents into big piles, tying them in bedsheets and throwing them into the car to get the apartment vacant and spotless with a noon deadline on getting into the new place. All this plus carpet cleaners arriving at 2:30pm and new tenants at 3:30pm. I don't know how I'm still standing.
Unfortunately, the move isn't finished. The apartment that I chose (best $/sf plus oversize balcony) has not been finished, hence the contents of my apartment are currently occupying the boardroom of an ex-accountant's office in the same complex. Once my suite is complete in a few weeks, I need to move everything over and finally take occupancy on the 1st of December. So I'm putting out another SOS with three weeks notice that I NEED ASSISTANCE on the 20th of November. This will involve moving furniture, boxes and bags out the boardroom, down the elevator across an indoor bridge, up another elevator and directly into the first suite across from the elevator. In the meantime, I need to go back, repair and dejunk a little more.
This halloween, I went as a homeless Elvis (In The Ghetto Elvis?)...so I'm staying with Chris this week, Gareth and Sophie next week and at a co-worker's farm the following week with no definitive plans for the last week of November (as I may be able to gain early occupancy). I can be reached on my cell...Grae and Cor have the number. Everyone'll like the new highrise...between the incomplete state and the security cards instead of keys it feels like wandering around Nakatomi Plaza or something...
