Asian Heritage Month at the D.o.S.

hey kids,

now that asian heritage month is just about over, i figured it was time to program a couple of banana flicks (also in honour of bob & rachel's shindig last weekend).

7pm: The Wedding Banquet [1993] -- Ang Lee's tale of a gay Tawainese yuppie happily living in New York with his boyfriend who decides to enter into a marriage of convenience with a shy Chinese immigrant desperately in need of a green card in order to appease his nagging parents. It seems like the perfect plan, until the 'rentals show up to plan the titular feast. Hilarity and heartache ensues.

9pm: Better Luck Tomorrow [2002] -- A bunch of overachieving Asian American kids go power trippin' with some criminal extra curricular activities. Yes, I know it sounds like an after school special but you know it isn't because you can count all of the Asians on American television (who don't read the news) on my hands. Also caused quite the sensation at Sundance when it premiered.

pop fund, rsvp, blah, blah, blah...
