bureaucracy sucks. I blame paul.
miyuki got her visa. yay! it took over four hours. there was maybe ten minutes of actual work involved.
appointment was at 10. we got there a bit early. I didn't get breakfast. this was a mistake.
at 10:30, they finally call her up. she gives them her paperwork, they get all that sorted out. a quick trip down the hall to the cashier, return with the receipt. then back to her seat. total time, about three minutes.
11:15, they call her up for her electronic fingerprinting. this took thirty seconds.
a little after noon, we get called up for the "interview"... answer a few questions, she signs her life away, and we're told to return at 2pm to pick up the visa.
we went and got some lunch at a japanese place. she got really good katsu, I had marginal at best sushi. we wandered around a bit more, she cashed her paycheque, we got some gelato (mango gelato is the greatest invention EVER).
get back to the consulate about 2:10. my logic was they told us "after 2" and they'd been horrendously late on everything, so why bother showing up at 2 on the dot? I'm not allowed in the consulate this time (some treatment of its own citizens, eh?), so I wait out front reading my book. she comes down at 2:30 with passport in hand. the visa is not what I expected...
they actually fed one of the passport pages into a machine. it scored the outer edge with an intricate border, and it's printed and embossed directly onto the page. several colours and patterns and shit. it looks quite cool.
it's now official that she'll be moving to the states next month. woot.

Tomorrow
Shall we meet at the Safeway before the lantern fun?
hm.. well..
I say yes. I say people that want to play lanterns with clubhousers can meet at the front doors of the Safeway at 7:15pm.
But I'm open to suggestion.. otherwise known as highly suggestable.. as you all well know...

"Unconfirmed July 28th Screenings?
Over at the 'Versal board, MrMatthew reports that a "Special Advance Preview" has appeared on Fandango for Las Vegas, on July 28th, at 10:00 PM, using the numerical movie ID code Fandango has used for the previous "Serenity" screenings."
so yeah. Keep checking cantstopthesignal.com and whedonesque to find out what day tickets go on sale.

For those who like to prepare and/or need ideas for how to get one's karaoke groove on, the current list of songs I can provide for the slack shack shindig is here.
Duplicates and incredibly cheesy recent pop that noone would want to cover will likely be deleted. In addition, there are requests in the works such as Rollins Band, Beck and Le Tigre.

No one has any information on this
Today at around noon, Rae and I went to T & T Supermarket on the edge of Chinatown by the 20 bus. On the way back we were going to take the SkyTrain back. We waited for about 10 minutes before I noted that it was more crowded than usual and the SkyTrain was taking longer than it normally does. Mere seconds later the intercom announced that the SkyTrain from Waterfront to Broadway was not running. There was "an intruder" (their term) and that there was no service from Waterfront to Broadway. No "please wait 10 to 20 minutes while we fix the problem", just an indefinite "no service, so away". It must have been that moment that the problem occured because buses were still pretty empty (the 20 Victoria runs close to all SkyTrain stops except Main Street/Science World).
Anyway, anyone got any word on this?

Brendan's B-Day by B.Hurley
I love you all...
I don't know how to make a new independant post for this blog... I'm a newbie, and a technopeasant.
So here goes.
Date: Friday 15 JUL 05
Place: At My place on Hawks ave in Strathcona.
Unofficial Theme:
It is going to be a Secret Agent themed party. Come as a your favorite spy, double agent, villian, banana republic dictator, or minion.
* ninjas and pirates are also acceptable.
** extra points for anyone who comes dressed as Emma Peel.
Official Theme: BYOB
Itinerary
First I am going to drag people out for dinner (mostly because my strata does not allow barbeques).
6:30pm
AFRO CANADIAN RESTAURANT
African food served with injera bread. 324 Cambie, 604-682-2646 lnt$$
good, tunes, great beer, excellent eats, and veggie options.
9:00pm
My house...
Gettin' the Party Started.
Those who can bring espionage themed games, activities, and movies will be muchly appreciated.
This house has four floors so there may be multiple activities going on at once.
Invite RULEs:
All clubhouse patrons are invited ... officially now.
I must have heard an invited person's name in a positive manner at least once in a conversation with you.
These people must not be likely to trash or jack my shit.
All invited guests including you must mingle with people outside of your own social group...
not something that I am too worried about...
Do your best to clear it with me, cuz that way I can plan ahead.

KJ Duke (Karaoke Jockey)
So I was recently gifted a Venturer CDG62 karaoke machine with dual cassette deck, digital echo, pitch control and tone adjustment. When combined with the sweet mics I found at the richmond nightmarket and the new source for custom CD+G discs, this makes for some interesting possibilities for those into the recent karaoke revival.
So if you'd like me to KJ a party or organize an evening to practice up for your next visit to the Veteran's Club, let's do it. Even I had stage fright before "Epic" last night, I mean c'mon -- we followed a girl who tore up the house with "Thriller". I've been working on a library of clubhouse favorites, split into 70's funk, 80's pop, 80's rock, 90's rock, 90's dance, new rock, new pop and the complete libraries of radiohead, gnr, prince, bowie and the police.
To request songs for addition to the clubhouse library, email me at:

It's been a while... so WOOT!!!
Party deep in the wilds of Burnaby, Saturday July 16th. It doesn't matter what time I say it starts, people will show up between 9 and 10. So show up when you want.
I'm housesitting that weekend for my parents, who have actually given me the green light to have a party at their place.
The place **CENSORED**, Burnaby, close to Edmonds Skytrain. There's a nifty hot tub, which has been rather popular at previous parties (all at least two years ago). Also a big barbeque if anybody wants burgers'n'stuff - often a fixture of these get-togethers. Literally over a dozen couches, too, so there's ample space for crashing. Last party at this house went until 4 PM the following day - I'm curious to see if that record can be broken.
I'll post more directions as the day nears.

For those who care...
There will be two more advance screenings of Serenity in the next couple of months. As for when keep checking cantstopthesignal.com. Usually tickets sell out within a hour they're posted so I'd start hanging out at the firefly and serenity forums for a heads up. We'll probably have a Firefly screening party at my house before Sept. 30 (The release date for Serenity).
If you don't know what I'm talking about pick Firefly on DVD. If you regret it, I don't know how to talk to you.
Also if you like Firefly and still refuse to watch Buffy (the name's supposed to be ironic, knob) you're a pussy and a hater.
Sorry. I'm really bored at work right now. I've spent two hours trying to find an amateur porn site or forum that posts exclusively geek or nerd girls. If you know where I could go or have any pics. beezlebozoclown@yahoo.com. I'm married, bitch! I need it!

HAPPY CANADA DAY
We intend to get really drunk and make nuisances of ourselves in various public squares singing Oh Canada at the top of our lungs while English people stare at our strange red and white plumage. What are your plans?
