D.o.S. Reminder: NOT FOR EVERYONE!!!

Hi Kids,

Sorry this is a little later than usual. I've been hella busy. Just wanted to drop you a line to remind you that this week is Rape Revenge night, and if you are bothered by graphic sexual violence to women (& men) DO NOT COME. We will not hold it against you & would rather you feel safe and happy than hang out with us. But for those who can handle it, the schedule is:

Monday (tomorrow) Nov 21

7pm: Spit on Your Grave (a.k.a. Day of the Woman) [1978] -- The "classic". Girl is brutally beaten & raped by 4 men. She recovers & spends the rest of the movie hunting them down, mutilating & torturing them & finally killing them in graphic & inventive ways. You can decide for yourself how "feminist" it actually is after you see it.

9pm: Irreversible [2002] -- French bad-boy auteur Gaspar Noe's tale of love, redemption & horrible, brutal violence. Most famous for driving people out of theaters in droves & causing others to faint. Audacious & ultimately soul crushing, if you think you're up to it, this is cinema that changes.

And, bring your appetites, because it's also Hot Dog Day!!! (Yes, I'm serious). We'll be providing beef & chicken dogs for y'all. If there are any Veggies in the house, please let me know & I'll make arrangements.

Also wanted to give everyone a head's up regarding this year's Xmassacre (the D.o.S.'s annual Christmas party). We've worked out the details & this year will be our first ever public film event to the hosted at the Blim Arts Society (17th & Main) on Dec 16th (Friday)!!! Admission will be by donation ($5 suggested) to cover operating costs & our feature presentation (baring any customs snafus) will be "Santa Claus", a Mexican children's movie from the early 60's that features (among other things) Santa Claus fighting Satan. Fantastical sets, bizarre Catholic overtones & a fixation on voyeurism highlight this highly entertaining piece of cinema obscura. Also, we will be doing a "Crappy Santa Gift Exchange", so bring a wrapped present of little or no value to put into the pot. More details to follow in the weeks to come (& god willing a website!), so stay tuned.

See ya soon,

~meeko
