saturday following evil film skool, or sunday following karaoke?

MOVIE NIGHT: Biker fun.
I've had a request recently to do a biker double bill of Easy Rider and one of the following movies we're about to see. Well I'm happy to oblige halfway.
Mon May.15
7pm The Wild Angels (1966): Loser (Bruce Dern), a member of the Hell's Angels, has his bike stolen by a group of Mexicans. He calls in his fellow member Blues (Peter Fonda) as well as several of the other members to help him get his bike back. In the attempt to reclaim it a huge melee breaks out and the police soon arrive. Loser, finding himself without a bike, steals the bike of one of the officers and is chased down and shot. Blues and his gang then plan on getting him back from the hospital. Things do not go well.
9pm Hell's Bloody Devils (1970): Al Adamson's lost "Classic". An FBI agent who has been assigned to infiltrate an organized crime ring in cahoots with neo-Nazis and recruited motorcycle gang, The Bloody Devils. Marvel at plot lines introduced, developed and then ignored.

Logo Competition
Now with prizes!
See that logo up there? That one. We need a new one. Email your design (similar dimensions, please). I will post them here with the option of "Better or worse" than the current logo as they come in (for the purposes of general anonymity). Responses can go either by email or in the comments. Ideally by "the end", we'll have chosen the best one. Let's say the cut off for this first round will be May 31?
If it's popular enough, it may just be an ongoing design function of The Clubhouse as another way for contributors to contribute.

Birthday plans
I'm going to a Midsummer Night's Dream at Bard on the Beach. Festival seating, so buy tickets, and we'll see each other there.
It's a Wednesday, so most of you will be going to karaoke, but for those who want an alternative, feel free to join me.

The Islands + Busdriver
UPDATE: THIS SHOW IS CANCELLED. Mesa Luna is closed. I'm so mad I could just spit!
Threadless... you know you want some
Okay, so I put in a big order yesterday and I accidentally, in a moment of confusion, ordered an extra shirt in guys small. It's about the size of a girls' large, only longer and not baby-tee style. It's called Landline's Revenge. It'll be about $15 when it comes in, call dibs now.
Also, I want to order another shirt (the one with the monster in the theatre seats), so if anyone else wants in on another cheap shirt order, I'll be putting one in around 10pm tonight.
Brendan: I ordered you a Commie shirt for $15; if you want it, it'll cost ya. ;)

Movie on Thursday
Lance and Brendan and Derek and I are going to see "Art School Confidential" on Thursday night. All are welcome. Open invite styles. Call and/or post for details.
PHANTASM double bill
As promised. Too lazy to write synopis. Just know, classic franchise I've, yet again, never exposed myself to (never seen a Leprechaun movie). Flying orbs, shrunken zombies directed by Don Coscarelli of now Bubba Ho Tep fame (formerly Phantasm fame). Starts as usual a little after 7pm.

Hey who wants to go camping?
I've been floating the idea of a couple of camping trips this summer. One all inclusive at Cultus Lake (Waterslides) and another farther out for just the guys. Anytime this summer (late july to early september) is good except for July 28-29. Comments? Suggestions? Money?
SUMMER OF LOVE! (or Nachtmarkt 2006)
Interesting theme...wonder if the vendors will run with it?
Anyhow, here's the scoop on the Richmond Nightmarket (off Vulcan Way and River Road in Richmond, 2.5 blocks north of Ikea).
Date: May 19 to Oct 01 2006
(Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Long weekends)
Opening hours:
7:00 p.m. to mid-night (Friday and Saturday)
7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. (Sunday and Long weekend)
I'm considering a trip on opening weekend once the date is set for a certain birthday. Great place to get games, movies, computer/cell accessories, books, kitchenware, RonCo knockoffs, cheap food...it's the closest thing Vancouver can offer to uwi...uwa...uwe...Aunt Jemima! (Damn you, Christian!)
TBA - Cascade Falls trip...tentative date July 23rd, but possibly a June date as well if it's hot enough. Hike riverbeds, swim in pools from glacier runoff, slide down naturally formed waterslides. Just east of Mission.
TBAA - Golden Ears is a close second...north beach, lower falls...shelter at peak to camp overnight...just north of Maple Ridge.

The Book Of Liz: a play by The Talent Family
I don't do a whole lot of plays but this one is a must-see because it's written by the Sedaris siblings, David (lots of books and NPR readings) and Amy (the afterschool special parody, Strangers With Candy). There are a few performances coming up. I'd prefer this Saturday or next...please comment if you would like to come along, and we'll fix a date soon.
The following info was cut & paste from here & there:
This is a campy comedy about Elizabeth, who has a bad sweating problem and is living a very routine life making cheese balls. It is the cheese balls that are supporting the community financially. When Elizabeth leaves to see what life is like in the big city, her old community begins to crumble. The recipe she provided is not creating the balls which were so legendary and people back home thinks she has sabotaged them. In the end, it is discovered that there is a secret ingredient that only Elizabeth has.
May 3-6 & 9-13, 8 pm, Havana Theatre (1212 Commercial). Tix $20 at the door/$15 advance at Biz Books, Little Sister's Book Store, and online.

an open letter to Shari's.
I cannot in good conscience support a restaurant whose ownership does not understand how to properly use an apostophe in their logo. I will be spending my diner oriented dollars at Denny's until you rectify this situation. Intelligent Americans can no longer turn a blind eye to this sort of literary laziness. Please think of the children.
P.S. Please tell I.H.O.P. to use periods in their acronym.

BLIND DEAD
SAM: Peter Jackson must be a total fan of the Blind Dead series 'cause he completely ripped off the look for the Black Riders in Lord of the Rings off that.
B.J.: Really? The Black Riders in the movie was almost exactly how I imagined them when I first read Lord of the Rings.
SAM: Totally ripped off. Have you seen any of the Blind Dead movies?
B.J. (hangs head): No.
Well we're rectifying that this week with the first two Blind Dead movies.
Mon. May 1
7pm Tombs Of The Blind Dead (1971) : IMDB: In the 13th century there existed a legion of evil knights known as the Templars, who quested for eternal life by drinking human blood and committing sacrifices. Executed for their unholy deeds, the Templars bodies were left out for the crows to peck out their eyes. Now, in modern day Portugal, a group of people stumble on the Templars abandoned monastery, reviving their rotting corpses to terrorize the land.
9pm Return Of The Evil Dead (1973) : The evil blind knights awaken during a festival celebrating the 500th anniversary of their defeat at the hands of the villagers. The drunken shouts of partygoers are quickly replaced by screams at the sight of the skeletal zombies and the massacre is on. A group of survivors ? including fireworks ace Jack, his old flame Vivian, the town's crooked mayor, and a few other eventual victims ? all gather in an old church that is quickly surrounded by the saber-swinging ghouls.
Next week if I can find it PHANTASM DOUBLE BILL!

Um yeah. Whoever has been cutting the trailers and tv spots for this movie has been doing an amazing job. Even with the only 6 week prep Ratner was given and the fact Ratner was directing it the trailers look great and gave us hope. After watching this...damn it looks cheesy and cheap. What do you think?

Variety of Movie Choices!
BIG SMASH, the Music On Film Festival run by Kier-La (Runner of Cinemuerte), is happening this weekend at the Cinematheque til Monday. On Monday they'll be playing 35mm prints of...wait for it...
THE MUPPET MOVIE at 7PM
and Brian De Palma camptacular classic
PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE at 10PM
with PAUL WILLIAMS in attendance.
Myself, I'll be home watching an western, a WWII movie or the first two Blind Dead movies so I guess MOVIE NIGHT is formally cancelled but come by if you not up to anything (though you probably should check out BIG SMASH that night). Hey maybe I'll be watching a movie about a vigilante cop, I don't know.

Friday, April 21st
@ The Slack Shack (address in the forum)
6:30pm - 2:00am

New additions will be available here.
Updated THIS EVENING.
All are welcome, bring friends. If you'll be really late, put in a request and give me a time when you want to be scheduled for.

CHARLIE MURPHY has a funnier brother? Say what?
Gonna keep this short 'cause this requires little explanation.
Two stand-up concert classics by Eddie Murphy. Nuff' said.
Mon. Apr. 17
7pm Eddie Murphy: Delirious (1983)
9pm Eddie Murphy: Raw (1987)
This is going to be some raunchy shit. I can't wait.

homecoming.
miyuki and I are gonna be up in two weeks, likely heading up friday the 21st... here's what _I_ would like to see happen, we'll see how much is actually possible...
friday night - private karaoke at some gracious host's home? I'm not feeling up to somewhere public...
saturday noon - chineefoo. same bat time, same bat channel.
saturday afternoon - movie maybe? paul wants to see slither, so that's an option... potential housecalls to new homes
saturday night - family time with the in-laws
sunday morning - breakfast in kits? eggs bennies at sunshine diner (I think that's what it's called). visit bean's new place while we're out there.
sunday afternoon already accounted for...
I won't be terribly disappointed if any/all of these requests aren't feasible... it's just how I envision things working out best for us. and we're the ones that matter.

Faith of the Hanson Brothers in the Hillside Thickets
While I strongly encourage you to check out Destroyer tomorrow (which I sadly will be unable to attend), there is a pretty sweet show in Langley on Thursday night as well. Langley? Where's that? I don't know, but if you were to meet me at a surrey skytrain station, I'm sure we could find it by car.
VENUE: 8 Seconds (formerly China Beach)
THIS WEEK IN HISTORY 9PM
You've met these guys at my last karaoke gig - Aidan, Jesse et al.
They'll be mainly covering Faith No More, angel dust era I'd imagine.
THE HANSON BROTHERS 10PM
Two members of NoMeansNo, Victoria punk legends. Hockey meets punk.
DARKEST OF THE HILLSIDE THICKETS 11PM
Local legendary valley rockers with an HP Lovecraft theme.
So there you go, an evening of Angel Dust, Hockey and Cthulu.
Tickets, I'm guessing $10?

I don't ever want to go to prison...
...except maybe for the tats and getting all buff. This week it's a prison movie double bill
Mon. Apr. 10
7pm American Me (1992): I saw this as a wee youngster, my first exposure to realistic (though dramatized) prison life and the images seen have forever scarred my psyche. Santana, A young street thug from East L.A. who after being arrested for a break in and becomes part of the "legalistic machine" including an 18 year stint in Folsom Prison. After being released he finds the outside life just as harsh as inside. Edward James Olmos (Admiral Adama to you geeks out there) stars and directs for the first time this crime epic. 126 min.
9pm Penitentiary II (1982): After earning his parole by winning the prison boxing tournament, Martel "Too Sweet" Gordone is tired of fighting and wants to move on to a more peaceful life. Too bad for him his prison nemesis Half Dead has broken out and murders Clarisse, Too Short's girlfriend. It's back to prison boxing training (one of the trainers played by Mr. T) and rising the ranks until he can confront Half Dead again. This over the top (and some have said all out shitty) prison boxing film comes heavily recommended by Sinister Sam. BYOB. 99 min.
Next week: "Charlie Murphy has a funnier brother? That's crazy talk."

SLITHER and JESUS IS MAGIC
Hey hey.
Seeing a couple of movies this week. First up Owen and myself are heading to the 7:20 show of SLITHER at Granville 7 downtown. Looks pretty hilarious and the browncoats should show up for Mr Nathan Fillion playing a completely out of his depth sheriff.
Second up the Jewish Film Festival added another showing of Sarah Silverman: Jesus is Magic at midnight this Saturday. You can order tickets over the phone (604-488-4300) or online. Hope to see a few of you there.
Adios.

Dial D for Drawings
This weekend, Mariko and I drove to Seattle to attend the comicon and visit Christian and Miyuki. One of the big attractions was the prospect of getting sketches from my two favorite comics artists, and I scored big time. These are some Sandman characters that suited their styles, and I can think of quite a few of you who might dig this artwork:

Concert tonight
Thursday are playing at the Croatian Cultural Centre tonight for an early, all ages show.
WARNING:
1) It's all-ages. This means that there is going to be alot more energy than you average bar show.
2) It's at the Croatian Cultural Centre. The acoustics here are second to none for terrible.
3) Tickets cost (w/service charges, which may be avoided by buying at the door) $29.55 each.
All three of the above listed things on their own could keep me away from most shows. However, Thursday is one of my most favourite bands (and certainly one of the louder of my favourites).
Hope to see you there! (note: early show means 6pm doors)

I know I usually post sh*t
but,
my sister's Dad sent me this and he works for the UN in Germany so it has his stamp of..
well his exact words were..
"I am not a big fan of government conspiracy theories, but this film does ask some pretty tough questions. (Some had occurred to me independently, aswell, such as the ability to use cell phones in a plane up 30,000 feet, and the weirdness around the pentagon "crash.") But hey, judge for yourself.-j
If you have high speed, I DARE you to watch this...
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8260059923762628848
"One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we've been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We're no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It's simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we've been taken. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back."
Sagan."
It's an hour and twenty long.. some parts are a little slow but it has a lot of cool factual details.. but see for yourself..

Ballet anyone?
Ballet B.C. is putting on a a ballet version of Streetcar Named Desire, choreographed by John Allyne who is an amazing, contemporary ballet choreographer. Rush tickets for students are 20$. My sfu ID has nothing on it to indicate whether or not it's still valid so i was gonna see if anyone else is interested heading down early to get rush tickets sometime this week. Runs April 6-8, 8pm or saturday tea time matinee(not sure if rush applies for this time though).
post a reply in the comments or call me if you are interested. I was thinking of going thursday or friday.

MOVIE NIGHT: we be UNDER SIEGE by hired guns and ghosts
This week boys and girls it's siege night.
Mon. Apr. 3rd
7pm RIO BRAVO (1959): The siege classic and archetype of pretty much all that follow. John Wayne, a small time sheriff, needs some help keeping a murderer under custody while the murderer's powerful rancher brother has sent many hired guns to get him out. Wayne enlists the help of a drunken Dean Martin, young gun fighting Ricky Nelson and crippled Walter Brennan to help him hold out until the Marshal arrives.
"When I'm getting serious about a girl, I show her Rio Bravo and she better fucking like it."
-Quentin Tarantino
9pm GHOST OF MARS (2001): A police unit is sent to a Martian outpost to transport bad ass criminal mo-fo Ice Cube back to justice. At a nearby archaeological dig an ancient relic has been uncovered unleashing the vengeful spirits of the planet's ancient warrior inhabitants, who now possess the bodies of humans with the intent to destroy more humans. Considered shit on its release this movie seems to be gaining a small cult following. Hopefully we'll see what they're talking about however it seriously could be this small cult has never seen Rio Bravo or Assault on Precinct 13 which means they have no clue.
Coming soon: Eddie Murphy stand-up double bill (postponing it for you Brendan) and Prisons Suck double feature with some Edward James Olmos goodness.

Writing Club is Postponed/Moved
I'm sorry I know the whole point was to keep strict deadlines. But I am way way too busy to organize and clean house. I am to busy (ironically) writing my thesis and packing for my move on Saturday. If someone wants to offer to hold it at their house tomorrow perhaps it can still go on but the clubhouse with both Bean and I packing is not available. Sorry. It can be moved to my new house(address in forum) next Tuesday if need be.
Feel free to give me a DOOMY LOOK OF DISAPOINTMENT next time you see me (though I bet yours isn't as good as mine).

In case you missed it...
There will be a pajama housewarming party on Saturday April 15th. I'll probably start in the early afternoon, maybe with some video games, pirates, tour of my neighbourhood, etc. I'll order in pizza dinner (for the movers in my life this weekend, your pizza will be FREE!) and pop in the first movie. Intermission will occur and popcorn will be popped (maybe... I need a microwave/popper before then), maybe some chips or other snack-like items. Feel free to bring snacks yourself. I'll plunk in a second movie, which we will inevitably talk through. Perhaps some gaming to follow? It's going to be looser that I am outlining, so feel free to throw suggestions into the pile.
Cake and singing will be offered for birthday girls in attendance.

Meat Day
I am planning an excursion to Memphis Blues on Friday March 31st to eat a lot of meat. I was thinking 7:00 or so, reply to this if you want to come so that I can get numbers and if need be make reservations.
PS I reserve Friday the 14th for the party at my place. Reasoning: TBD.
PPS They now have "The Priscilla," which is twice the size of the "Elvis Platter."

Housewarming
I am reserving Saturday April 8th for a housewarming which for those who show up early will be a help Rachael unpack the last few boxes party.
I will put up a proper post closer to the time.

Head pounding...memory hazy...

Though I wouldn't expect to be singing "Like a virgin" in front of the entire 298 or blindly agreeing to be tattooed, though temp, in a rational headspace. So yes, much appreciation to Avery's friend at the Cambie who we ran into once everyone dispersed from the Irish Heather. Indeed we only hit a handful of places, but we made 'em count.
Thanks to everyone that joined us throughout the night, I'm off to get coffee...

movie night: ASIAN PANDEMIC
It's a virus-a-go-go this week. Sorry for leading you guys on about the Cary Grant night but that's postponed indefinitely for personal reasons (Apologies to Jessica, Kat and Jill).
Mon. Mar.27
7pm Virus (1980): The uncut Kinji Fukasaku film. Watch the human world die not only through a military engineered virus but also earthquakes and nuclear fire. WHOOOO! A very emotional film with an all star cast, Sonny Chiba, George Kennedy, Robert Vaughn, Edward James Olmos and best of all an over the top HENRY SILVA. Running time is 155 minutes so we're starting right at 7. Please be on time.
9:30pm Ebola Syndrome (1996): Straight up Hong Kong gore. No slapstick bullshit (as far as I know) this time. A gangster returning from hiding in South Africa is now a carrier of the gruesome ebola virus (after contracting it from raping, killing, chopping up, cooking and serving an infected girl)and is now spreading it around Hong Kong. Outrageous sex and gore. Not for the faint of heart.
See you then.

The Crawl to 30
Hey everyone, it's been a busy week between vancouver island and an interview, but I'm plotting a course as we (well, I) speak for saturday. I'm suggesting a starting point of Broadway skytrain station for 5:30pm, at which point we'll take the 99B west and hit Moderne Burger (closes at 9), then Hell's Kitchen for funky highballs.
Also planned: the cambie, the ivanhoe, irish heather, the bourbon, uncle fatih's, sweet cherubim (closes at 10), the 298, Asbalt? Rugby club? I'm hoping the weather will hold out so we can possibly add a scenic place or two.
I omitted Uranus and Rime due to cover. Meeting point for Broadway station can be just up on the platform. Check the forum for my cell, it'll be on all night...

I saw them in Winnipeg.. really great live show.. the lead singer can do the splits.. the drummer is left handed and they just all banter really well..

For real. DEN OF SIN.
Just a repost.
This week it's CANNIBAL CUISINE NIGHT (as opposed to eating the raw human flesh off with your teeth).
Mon. Mar.13th (Hey it's Damon's B-day)
7pm The Untold Story: Human Meat Roast Pork Buns (1992): Hong Kong Code III terror. A freshly severed hand washes up on the beach and the squadron of cops assigned to investigate it follow the trail to the mysteriously new owner of Eight Immortals Restaurant, which serves delicious pork bao. I think you can take it from there. Not a mere slasher cannibal comedy but a ghastly and unsettling experience. Come on we've been through "Irreversible", you can take it.
9pm Motel Hell (1980): "It takes all kinds of critters...to make Farmer Vincents fritters." The horror classic that I'm ashamed to say I never heard of it before I started going to Cinemuerte. A fave of many, will it be yours?
Hope to see a lot of you here.
Next week a total change of pace. Cary Grant double bill.

Can we finally go and see a movie horribly drunk? Can it be this one? I know we've said that we'd do it before... but this time, can we actually do it?
The following people must go:
- Mike (for originally turning me on to this)
- BJ (for making me watch "Dragon Storm")
- Graeme (probably the only one who will go "HELL YEAH" when he sees the trailer)
- Mariko (because she'll actually drink my moonshine, and for playing a part in the "Dragon Storm" incident)
- Corinne (For falling asleep during "Boa Vs. Python")
- Everyone else (because I hate you and want to see you in pain)
I'll bring the moonshine and air-sickness bags.

Moving weekend, April 1-2, 2006
Jessica, Rachael and myself are all moving this fine weekend.
I know Rachael's moving on the 1st for sure; Jessica will be doing similarly (correct me if I am incorrect); I, however, am working on for the entire 24 hours of the 1st of April and will be unable to move anything that day.
Rachael will be renting a truck for her objects, and just needs arms to move things. Jessica's plans elude me. I have one set of two arms to help me move on the Sunday, any others, including those who might have access to a vehicle that day, would be greatly appreciated. I'm moving the following items:
Wardrobe, clothing, laptop, television, sound system, futon, bears, cats, CDs, DVDs, PS2, games: DS & PS2, laundry basket(s), arts & crafts stuff, toiletries, books (2.5 smaller boxes), sewing machine (supplies), few dishes, some other things.
You will not have to move any beds, desks, tables, chairs, couches, bins of paper, scientific apparatuses, cutlery, bookcases or explosives.
If you are away at a comicon or helping other people move, but still want to assist me, I would appreciate anyone with a vehicle to accompany me to an Ikea location in the week following the 2nd to acquire the following necessary items:
Collapsible table & standard or folding chairs
Possible bed frame (50-50 chance of needing one)
TV stand (to hold the TV & PS2)
Expedit bookcase
Bedding, if I have not acquired it yet
When was the last time you had a say in an Ikea spending frenzy?
I can probably get my parents to help me with the domestic stuff (towels, microwave, toaster oven, rice cooker), but it's way more fun with friends.
If everything is set up and ready on the weekend of the 15th, I will be having a pajama party with popcorn, movies and Denny's in the AM. It's going to be low-key as it's in an apartment building and the frenzy of a party is not the best idea.
Let me know; I'm getting more stressed as time goes by (I'm up to five nosebleeds this week).

THINGS TRANSFORMED: OBJECTS, SELF, DECEPTICONS
I'm going to a lecture by Bill Brown, Brian Jungen and Liz Magor. They will be discussing "Things Transformed: Objects, Self, Culture", at 7 PM, UBC Robson Square Theatre.
I don't know any more about it than that. If anyone else is MAN ENOUGH for this slammin event, we should meet up.

Just wanted to put the word out: keep Saturday the 25th evening open. I'm thinking we need to organize a transit crawl to approximately 30 different locations TBA...some may be licensed...hopefully most will be.
Oh yeah, it's 2 days before my birthday.

OK Listen up bitches...
I know that clubhousers are fundamentally lazy slobs and that's good, 'cause it's all ... culture jammin' an' stuff. But I've just accepted a job workin' for da Man and this job, it's going to be soul-sucking at times. So I'm gonna need something to help me get through this year while I save up enough to do my masters. I need to throw myself into something... get engaged in a subject, as it were. I've decided I want to be a better writer. And I know some of my friends want to be writers (Perhaps they think it will get them lots of sex because they're certainly not going to make much money at it no matter how good they are. Anyways...)
I've decided to set up a writing club. The following people are members of the club (note this is not up for discussion and attendance is mandatory):
Bean
Kat
Meeko
Scott PM (This one may require kidnapping.)
Others may join but only by proving to me that they really want to write and are willing to butter me up. The above people I already know like writing. I figure I will use my domineering personality to force my friends to improve my writing and at the same time launch my friends' literary careers. Plus having bi-weekly meetings will force me to write like nothing else will.
Meetings will be held fortnightly originally at the clubhouse and subsequently at my new place. I will post the address in the forum. These meetings will involve copious amounts of wine.
The people mentioned above are to phone me and give me their schedules so I can arrange a meeting.
Warning:
Any attempt to ignore or circumvent this plan will be meet with Rachael's DISAPPOINTED LOOK OF DOOM or perhaps her DOOMY LOOK OF DISAPPOINTMENT. You have been warned.

Though we here at the Den of Sin frown on the act of rape we certainly seem to have no problem with it being in our entertainment. So tonight it's SPRECTAL RAPE NIGHT.
Mon. Mar.6
7pm The Entity (1981): Barbara Hershey stars as Carla Moran, a poor soul who finds herself repeatedly raped and molested by some unseen force. Could it be hysteria, repressed sexual trauma or some freaky ass demon. Well my vote's on the demon. Guess we'll see.
9pm Demon Seed (1977): Repeatedly trailered at Cinemuerte we finally see the movie (for those curious to know STUNT ROCK the other repeatedly played trailer will be played at the BIG SMASH film festival coming soon). A super computer hoping to breed succeeds in raping his creator's wife. More terror ensues.
Goodness sounds like fun.

Indecision...
So do I move to Thailand for two years and take a job teaching sustainable development and conflict resolution to Burmese activists?
I can't bloody well decide. On the one hand, it would be a great experience, and pretty much vault me into the truly international workforce in one easy step.
On the other hand, two years is a long time, and the pay is (presumably) shit - which matters because I've got student debt. Plus Briana would kill me if I miss her wedding.
So now I want other people to decide for me.

Will There Be A Den Of Sin?! UNFINISHED BUSINESS for real.
Maybe.
I have to move all my furniture back to it's original place and it's gonna be mighty difficult to be careful with the new floors and host a movie night myself. I was hoping I could bribe people (hopefully not too much help. I don't want bored people standing around) to help me move couches, shelves and reconnect all the speakers in time for movies.
But wait...there's another hitch. One of the movies we'd be potentially watching is busted at my store and I have no money to rent it elsewhere. So I'd be grateful if someone would volunteer to rent a copy. The movie? Well it's the first movie of the night.
Mon. Feb.27
7pm Last half of Aguirre: Wrath of God (1972): This was a while back but to fill people in I'll just copy and paste what this dude on IMDB said; "A few decades after the destruction of the Inca empire, a Spanish expedition leaves the mountains of Peru and goes down the Amazon river in search of gold and wealth. Soon, they come across great difficulties and Don Aguirres, a ruthless man who cares only about riches, becomes their leader. But will his quest lead them to "the golden city", or to certain destruction?" Seriously that brings us up to where the DVD failed.
9pm Last half of Soldier of Orange (1977): If you weren't here for the first half you might be confused. To recap by my faulty memory; WWII. Germany has invaded and conquered Holland. Rutger Hauer, a privileged care free student at the beginning of the film has grown into a concerned freedom fighter. He does some damage to the Germans forcing him to travel to England to escape reuniting with his old school chum on the fleeing freighter. At this point everyone was sleepy and went home. Bah. So we're finishing her off.
So if that's what we're doing and you want to help call me (604-831-4699). I'm assuming most of you are working during the day so don't worry too much.
Pop fund not in effect. No pop.

Why?
So I have the 2nd Dungeons and Dragons movie (Wrath of the Dragon God), and Doom.
I also have a litre of moonshine.
All I need now is a place to watch it and other people to ensure that I am not drinking alone. Please post available locations and general declarations of interest. If there is no interest, I will watch them alone in my basement on my birthday.

Christian vs. Your Eardrums *LIST NOW UPDATED*
Hey, so I was reminded last night that the slack shack gig is in 1.5 weeks, that is the evening of Saturday, March 4th. They need dinner music for the raclette, hence I'll supply the karaoke gear, 2000+ songs (da funk) and Bob will provide the sound system (da noise). It worked out great last time and if I can dig out the cables, we can probably mix in a dvd player.
Anyhow, if anybody has any song requests, just comment or email me. I probably won't have time to do any custom tracks, but check out www.dbkaraoke.com and click on "advanced search" and type in the artist or song title that you're thinking of (this will tell you if that particular song is available in the karaoke world, in which case there's an 80% chance I can find it). DBKaraoke is not exhaustive, so it might still be available if you don't find it there.
The list is still available here, but is a little out of date. I'll update it by monday. There'll be some new soul, old school R&B and a beastie boys flood.

miyuki's triumhant return to canadaland, or christian v. chineefoo: round 18
after a quick trip to homey security, miyuki's card is green! not red or brown or orange or periwinkle, but greeeeeeen! we will have it in our possession within ten days, putting us on schedule for a return to the hinterland the weekend of march 4. we're going to keep our gradual reacclimation to canadian culture on the lowdown, so hopefully we'll be able to see everyone in mellow settings. however, I do feel obliged to invoke the long forgotten, time honoured tradition of CHINEEFOO! noon, sunday march 5, peking restuarant, everyone invited. be there or be rhomboid.
Death Cab For Ferdinand
Would anyone like to see the Death Cab For Cutie/Franz Ferdinand co-headlining show? FF weren't announced at first, I think because they're going to the Coachella festival in CA the next day, but they've now been confirmed.
Pacific Coliseum
Friday, April 28, Doors 6pm/Show 7pm
$45.50-$35.50
Based on our seats at the Giants game the other week, I'm fine with the cheaper seats as opposed to the floor. I think that's how it works. I will be going to Zulu Records maybe around Saturday at noon to buy tickets, where they should be a little cheaper than the listed Ticketmaster prices. Anyone in?

Den of Sin: We've got UNFINISHED BUSINESS.
In recent times we've have missed out on a couple of showings. One due to the weakness of the audience (Soldier of Orange), the other due to the weakness of the DVD or player. Well this week we're gonna rectify that.
Mon. Feb. 12th
7pm Salon Kitty (1976): Here's what I wrote when we originally programmed it; "This will be our first Tinto Brass movie we've seen. This about a brothel enjoyed by many a Nazi. There may be a plot involving recording the Nazis getting it on (meaning "bizarre passions and carnal degradations") with the ladies for blackmail purposes. But hey there's "Bizarre passions and carnal degradations". Sadly we don't know about programming more Tinto Brass movie for fear of tripping over people's boners while heading to the washroom." Yeah well the DVD didn't work but we have a different copy at my store so I'll be making sure to grab that one. Hey if that doesn't work there's the second half of "Aguirre: The Wrath of God".
See ya tomorrow.

Octophonic Coffee
Soma cafe (2528 Main St at Broadway) at 9pm Friday. They'll be playing Zaireeka, the 1997 album by the Flaming Lips which was released on 4 CDs intended to be played simultaneously for octophonic sound. Prizes will be awarded!
I've only bothered to listen to it on various combos of 2 CDs and even that's pretty fun at times. If anyone would like to meet up, leave a comment or call.

Coookies!
For those of you without plans for Valentines Day or would rather share it with friends, I'm having a cookie party at Trevor's on Febuary 14th. I figured we could start early around 6pm or so. I'll make a large main dish for dinner. If you want to come by earlier and help me make dough that would be cool just let me know.
So the plan is to make and decorate cookies. I have a few cookie cutters but if you have your own that you think poeple might want to use please bring them. Also if everyone could bring either something to go with dinner or some kind of candy decoration( sprinkles, candy, decorating gel etc.) that would really help me out.
Trevor's adress should be in the forum, i'll update it if need be. If you are vegetarian please let me know that way I know how much to make that isn't with meat.

It's still going BABY! DEN OF SIN! Celebrate.
I'll be posting later in the week with a complete schedule for the month. As for this monday.
EARLY MIIKE
(I'll just repost the earlier write-up)
7pm Shinjuku Triad society (1995): Miike's theatrical debut after many straight to video features. There's yakuza violence and taboos broken. Fun to be had by all.
9pm Fudoh: The New Generation (1996): Fudoh doesn't like his yakuza boss Dad, especially after seeing him kill Fudoh's brother. So it's all out war between Father and Son! It's Miike that should be enough explanation for you.
If you guys are worried about weirdness or awkardness this really is the best thing for us. Good times, good friends. Word.
